It's still a classic....
What can I say? It has a metal housing (not just painted plastic), the buttons are huge, and it slides like glass across a surface. It has a very low-profile design which makes it ideal for gaming. I traded off my Logitech G7 (cordless G5) for it, and it met my expectations for doing so.
Pros- EXTREMELY accurate. It may say 1800dpi, but it's instant (1ms response). Huge over-sized buttons which allow you to stretch and move your fingers around during a game session. Excellent scroll wheel and perfect skates.
Cons- Only 5 buttons, difficult switching the DPI unless you sacrifice one of the five buttons...that's about all of the cons.
Bottom Line- It's durable, comes with extra feet, and should last for many years to come. I think this mouse cuts the bells and whistles; it gives you only what you NEED. If a 5 button mouse does the trick for you, I can't recommend this mouse enough. Get one before they're gone for good.
The stickiest of the icky.
I can see why some complain about its comfort level. I personally like it, but the wide front, and its design to fit ambidextrously stops it from perfecting left or right. jack of all trades etc etc. but it is a master at being nice for big hands.
only 1 button on each side, which while at first that seems horrible, its actually good. one big button that is much more versatile for me. i never used the buttons before (except on my mx518) because the buttons on the razer copperhead and to a lesser extent the razer diamondback were awkward to press. but on this mouse this huge button can be remapped to almost any keyboard key, and even assigned a macro. what makes that even better is that if its a keystroke it can be permanently saved to the mouse. that really helps on old games that don't recognize mouse 4/5.
it never seems to sleep, so no latency when inactive.
the lights on it can be toggled, which i find a delightful addition.
the bad:
the mouse is so sensitive that pressing the mouse button w/o moving the cursor is difficult. but can lower the sensitivity on the mouse, so not a dire problem.
the super sensitive craze tricks gamers into thinking they absolutely need a super mouse. truth is, too much is just as bad as too little. from what i've seen many will taper it down to be something manageable, even to the point of reducing the dpi within the mouse. to actually control this mouse at times can be difficult if not use to something this delicate. while the mouse is perfect, the human hand isn't. if one day the mouse cursor zooms across screen and your hands are no where near, can be sure something just barely touched the mouse. basically its as accurate as the user, and does not lag enough to ignore shaky hands. a scalpel of mice.
same goes for the copperhead. but because of it, i can make minute changes, or large movements with minimal mouse pad (though i prefer my logitech trackball for anything non-hardcore gaming).
if doing anything that doesn't involve pretending to shoot off someones head, shock combo, blow up space fighters, or maybe extra fine graphics modeling, then this mouse is probably too much. if you do, this mouse easily allows a person to put an shock rifle blast/rail gun in a person from a great distance. don't even have to move entire hand, just nudge it with the palm.
the reprogrammable buttons may be good for role playing games, but not by much. but even if it was put at lowest dpi, i still think this is a fantastic mouse, and would rather it over any default mouse.
This is my favorite mouse.
Top of the line
Pros: It is a very high quality mouse with the amazing 3G sensor that is just as good or even better than it's hype suggests. Tracking is super smooth and accurate. It feels great in your hand, even though it's a bit on the large side. It comes with extra teflon feet for when yours wear out, which is a big plus and the software is very easy to use and has a lot of features.
I highly recommend this mouse, it's top notch. The price might be a bit steep, but once you see it up close and use it, you will say it was worth it.
Cons: Might be a bit large for some
