A good wheel for a small price
I use this wheel for NASCAR racing 2002 . it is very easy to use i like the brake and gas pedals as part of the wheel. So their is no connection to break or become worn. tHE STEERING IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY.It is a good wheel that is overshawoded by the big name wheels.
An OK inexpensive wheel
As a wheelchair user, I was looking for a racing wheel that had analog paddles behind the wheel instead of foot pedals. I stumbled on this wheel, and decided to check it out because of it's low price on the Amazon marketplace.
Overall, I am satisfied with the performance of the wheel. How could I not be after paying only $5.00 for it? Of course there are better, more full featured wheels on the market, but not at that price!
Here is the data you should have before buying this wheel:
1. This is a GAMEPORT wheel - NOT USB!!! It does not come with a USB adaptor. I am using it with the gameport on my Audigy 2 soundcard. I had to manually set it up in WinXP Pro, but after that simple exercise, it worked fine. WinXP does not auto-recognize it and configure drivers like a USB wheel, but the setup is still very easy.
2. Even though the description says "vibration feedback", this is NOT a "force feedback" wheel. The wheel makes a vibrating sensation when the power connector is plugged in. The vibration gets more intense as the wheel is turned and gets closer to the limits of it's travel. BUT...it is NOT force feedback controlled by the game you are playing. The wheel just wiggles away by itself. You won't get crash affects or game controlled force feedback.
3. The wheel attaches to the desk or other support suface with suction cups - not a clamp system. The suction cups seem to work fine so far - and they leave more room under the desk for things like legs and wheelchairs.
4. The wheel is relatively small in size, smaller than current wheels from other companies. Seems sturdy enough, though.
5. the LED lights just sort of flash back and forth when the wheel is plugged in and the PC is on. They don't really say anything useful.
6. In NASCAR Thunder 2004, F1 2001, and Superbike 2001, performance is fine. No complaints.
7. If you get the wheel new, there is a nice selection of older racing games.
Better than most...
So, Here is an inexpensive force feedback wheel, that is gameport, and has pedals on the back so that it can be used by peoples of all shapes, sizes, ages, and many other sortable items.
Plus:
Pedals on back of wheel really sensitive and can be adjusted
Nice feel, Turning this wheel is natural.
Lights Respond to pedals when in gameplay to allow you to see the degree of acceleration (Nostalgic for those nightrider fans)
Also with 8 buttons, this wheel can be configured as a standard game controller.
Utilizing Windows Built in DirectX Game Controller configuration, Shake Feedback can be customized.
Minus:
No USB, only gameport
Requires a little manual configuration
Overall - Well worth the money if you are just wanting to have a little fun with a steering wheel.
Comments on other reviews:
The force feedback feature does indeed work in response to in game action if configured properly. There is a setting to allow the DirectFeedback feature of games to control it or to let the wheel do the feedback. To get game controlled feedback it must be enabled.
