    Overlooked, Underated space combat game!5
I cant beleive so many people dont know about this game.
Great space combat, no rpg, no rts, no economy,...just combat.
    Like capital ship/fleet combat? ....check.
Like straight fighter dogfighting instead? ....check.
    Your choice!
You can even be squadron commander of your fighter group.

Great campaign, or design your own single missions. (very detailed)
Theres even a few missions where your take off from ground bases on planets for some aerial missions.

And you can mod it,a great.. but small community over at starshattermods.
They have a downloads section for mods that include = star wars, B5, BSG/old and new, star trek and more.

Joystick compatability seems to work. I'm using a X52 and it works fine.
Newtonian flight model, other modles availible for ease of use.... very tweakable game. I'm playing the BSG mods and having a blast!
Has time compression.Lots of replay value here!!
Still not convinced? Just google the title and read for your self,
    definatley worth the money.

    Amazon.com Product Description
Star Trek: Armada 2 is the sequel to the Star Trek real-time strategy title Star Trek: Armada. An innovative RTS, Star Trek: Armada 2 adds a new level of strategy and realism to the original by allowing players to command from a 3-D tactical view. Set in The Next Generation universe, the game's story unfolds through three single-player campaigns from the Federation, Klingon, and Borg perspective. Additionally, the Cardassians, Romulans, and Species 8472 will join the fray throughout.

The sequel also features more armada than before. Sweeping 3-D gameplay immerses gamers in a universe of space, supremacy, and survival with more ships, longer campaigns, and all-out battles. You can arrange fleets in many different 3-D formations with up to 16 ships, which dramatically affect strategic and tactical decisions. The outcome of every encounter depends on the player's ability to manage resources, crew, and fleets of ships across the galaxy.

Players command the fleets of three different races through three separate single-player campaigns for a total of 30 missions. Additionally, gamers can take control of six separate races in multiplayer mode. Each has divergent combat styles and tactical approaches. Other noncombatant aliens such as the Ferengi make for willing trade partners. Gamers become fully immersed in the explosive battles with the addition of the tactical view mode, a ship-to-ship combat viewer that allows you to control fleets from on top of the action.

    Better than I expected5
I just bought Star Trek: Armada 2. It definitely looks like Activision took notes from all the complaints in Star Trek: Armada (1) and fixed the problems. Now you can have up to 16 ships in each fleet. There are 3 single play campaigns including Star Fleet, Klingon, and the Borg. All the Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager ships are in this game. The tutorials are great and let you play as Species 8472, Romulans, and Cardassians. The idea in the tutorial is that you can learn how the enemy works so you can beat them.

The graphics are great! The ships have special weapons which require recharging (similar to magic in Warcraft). When starships explode in the game, it is really cool. The introduction has pretty good animation and a voiceover by Patrick Stewart.

The only possible thing that I could ask for more is to include the Dominion. This is what Homeworld: Catalysm should have been.

    Star Trek: Armada 24
This sequel to one of the more popular of the Star Trek PC games has a a whole new look and feel for the gameplay experience. Imagine this game as Star Trek Armada 1 bred with Homeworld Cataclysm. This game has much more to offer than it's predecessor. This game has an entirely new 3D view similar to that of Homeworld and the same overhead view found in Star Trek Armada 1. The graphics have been retouched and more beautifully sculpted in the computer and the action sequences can now be viewed in a wide variety of views and a new zooming feature for the feel of detail in every ship in your armada. Activision has added new ship classes as well to 6 different races (Federation, Klingon, Borg, Cardassian, Romulan, and Species 8472. Although you can only play all 6 in multiplayer mode and only 3 of the races can be played in single player mode; newer strategic abilities have been added to this game. Much like Homeworld, your ships can now be grouped into 3D formations such as 16 of your ships into X Formation or Wall Formation. Ships can now run on both impulse and warp speeds during gameplay. The ship classes for each race has numbered over 20 each. An example of the classes include Federation ships: Venture, Defiant, Akira, Sabre, Steamrunner, Intrepid, Iwo-Jima, Aegian, Colony, Cargo, Galaxy, Sovereign, Nebula, etc. Ships each have the existing special weapons of the first game and also new additions of special weapons. There are several new starbases such as ship upgrade facilities where the player can upgrade the ship shields, life support, engines, sensors, and weapons. Planets can be colonized by colony ships and also trade centers can be built so that you could mine and trade dilithium, latinum, metal from planets, and crew. The storyline is well written and takes place just shortly before Voyager returns home to Earth from the Delta Quadrant. Overall, Star Trek Armada 2 is a much improved game that deserves player attention. This is a game for all Star Trek fans and a definite must buy!
    Gameplay = 9/10
    Graphics = 9/10
    Sound = 8/10
    Value = 9/10

Resistance is futile... but frustration may vary!4
I was surprised to receive a copy of Activision's Star Trek: Armada II for Christmas. The mid-morning of the 26th, I turned on the computer and loaded up this bad boy. After a complete installation of 1.3 gigabytes (that's including the need for an extra 100 megabytes of hard drive space for a Windows swap file), I sat back and let Patrick Stewart's voiceover carry me through the opening movie.

Armada II picks up six months after the events of the first game ends. Although the Borg were beaten back by the combined Federation, Klingon, and Romulan fleets, they have returned with a deadly new planetary assault vessel capable of assimilating an entire world. To prevent the Borg from gaining a foothold in the Alpha Quadrant, the Federation is launching the first-ever assault against the Borg in the Delta Quadrant. (In one of the battles you capture a new kind of transwarp portal that allows Starfleet to travel to the Delta Quadrant.) With Starfleet off in the Delta Quadrant, the Klingons are left playing peacekeeper in the Alpha. But the Klingons are having problems of their own - the Cardassians. In the mix for good measure are the Romulans and Species 8472. Got all this so far? Ok. That's just the story. Armada II as a game is a whole other story.

Visually, Armada II carries over the best elements of its predecessor. The graphics are great for an RTS - the colors rich and vibrant; the ship and station textures distinct. With the new 3-D perspective (which you can toggle between that and 2-D) and the new tactical feature of fleet formations, Armada II has gained much ground over the original. Game play has changed significantly also. The new structures, ships, and enemies make Armada II more challenging. Combine this with the new economic component, players gain a more tangible, realistic perspective to the managerial tasks of interstellar combat. The need to colonize worlds for crew reinforcements; building orbital mining facilities to extract metal to build your fleet, and the need to harvest both dilithium and latinum to purchase or trade with other players or non-player characters is a unique consideration missing from other Star Trek games, while not taking away from your combat objective. Now for the bad news: Armada II can be very frustrating to play.

Even without the economic considerations, new ships, technologies, and races, Armada II is still a difficult game to play... and at times even boring. I've just gotten through the first nine mission of the Federation campaign after many grueling hours of game play and a lot of saves. Yes, the objectives change from mission to mission, but to keep fighting the Borg successively is a bit draining. In the original Armada, your mission varied between fighting your enemy to locating a lost ship or outrunning an enemy fleet while still remaining within the original context of the story. So far it's just hunt and kill, which stays with the story but gets redundant after awhile. Couple this with some game restrictions like the 600-officer cap (which limits the number of ships and stations you can build) and the frustration mounts. I began the game employing the same tactics I used in the first Armada but I had to quickly discard that strategy. This might seem like a plus because the game wouldn't be like too much like the original because that would be predictable, right? Wrong. The AI in this game is less responsive when you need it to be and more aggressive when you don't want it to be. In addition, the older ship classes are not as resilient as in the first Armada, which means they can't hold up as long in a firefight as they used to. I used to send in my construction ships as a decoy to lure enemy forces away because they had stronger shields and a high crew compliment. Not anymore! Also, the construction time for ships and facilities is drastically shorter making combat that much longer. The faster a fleet can be built the more you have manage and the more the game becomes cumbersome. Don't think this is a problem? Try sending a fleet of Defiant-class ships against a Borg cube while trying to build your support stations and then we'll talk. Or did you think you'd have enough metal or dilithium or crew personnel to amass your defenses? Still unphased? Now try to go on the offensive. You'll score little damage against an enemy shipyard when it can build a dozen ships in under five minutes to defend itself. Although this creates a higher degree of difficulty and lends credence to the war-aspect that Armada II is centered around, it can turn a two-hour mission (real-time) into a three day event! I like a game that won't end in two hours but I don't like taking two weeks to complete one board - and I'm not even up to the Klingon campaign!

Gameplay aside, Armada II hangs from time to time during the cinematic cutscenes. The audio and visual sputter probably because of a RAM drop (a technology issue) and I'm running a full install with over a gig free of storage, 128MB of RAM, and a 40x CD-ROM drive on a PIII 733 processor (you computer geeks understand what I was saying). Other than load time and minor performance problems, Armada II, so far, is a worthy successor to the original. The story is enticing (the voiceover work by Patrick Stewart, Alice Krige, and J.G. Hertzler a plus), the combat challenging, and the game play generally fun. Although my review is mixed, I do like the game, but I still have a lot to go. I don't think anything will change my opinion, but if it does, you'll be the first to know. Right now, I recommend Armada II to any Star Trek gaming nut who enjoyed the first one and has been disappointed by almost every other Star Trek title published in the last two years.

    Good Game5
What happened to the Game - Star Wars Galaxies is probably one of, if no the most, entertaining MMO on the market right now. Contrary to what most of the reviews on here say, this game is not horrible mindless grinding with indignant players, who don't care a thing about enjoying the game. However, I have played this game since June of 2004 (I know this is not since the beta), and it has massively changed from its original format. When I started this game, the profession system was incredibly diverse, allowing a person to make a character to suite their playing style perfectly, but due to easily swayed Dev's and a lot of unfounded whining (most likely from the same people who are now giving it bad reviews now, or at least similar to these folks), the game was made horribly unbalanced. Fully leveled Jedi knights could be horribly wiped out by most of the other melee fighting classes, with no problem. Finally, the Devs realized that the game could not be fixed from its current state of buggered up, so they wiped it and started new. This time the classes are a bit more confined, but never the less they are just as fun.

What this means for the game - The Classes are much more confined, so this means you can't have a crafter with any combat class skills, but the up side is there are two character slots available on each server. This is much better. Because rather than having a good craft with horrible combat or vise versa, you can have both a good combatant and a good crafter or what ever you want. Also everything is pretty well balanced. The only thing that makes a class better than another is play style preference. Another plus is other than a few 13 year old L33T speakers and a few 38 year old star wars junkies/gurus, the people are pretty friendly and helpful.

MMO Recommendations - If you aren't sure what MMO to choose now here is my list of MMO's I've dealt with.

Matrix Online or City of Heroes - Not much to do other than kill baddies. However, killing enemies seems to stay fun for a long time, and player interactions are always entertaining. Since fighting is all there is to do, expect much grinding and repetitive missions.

Guild Wars - Content is fun for maybe 2 months, but after that you must entertain yourself creatively. Never was too hard for me, but it could be for some people. Free monthly fee is definitely worth getting. Nice side track when the pay per month MMO's get boring

World of Warcraft - Good game. The Fan base can get a little too into the game. The crafting is a bit odd and I never really pursed that too far. This game is also the most popular MMO right now, but I would recommend a trial.

Star Wars - My favorite. You can have fun doing quests, talking to people, messing with crafting, or just plain, pointless screwing around. Space is also the icing on the cake. Every game has grinding and some things take forever in this game, but it is a good one for those who get bored with constant killing. Try the trial if you are unsure.

PS - Never Dealt with Customer service, so it might not be good. I don't know about that one.

    SWG updated reviews4
I have been playing this game for about 1 year now. Although it initially had alot of bugs in it due to the DEV's wanting to rush everything out...they have since included multiple patches and mini publishes to enhance the game's overall experience. Is this to say the game is perfect? By no means. However, I see it continually improving as time goes by. It's pretty much like any other MMORPG simply with a different flavor/setting. The graphics are intense, and you can have your character highly stylized in appearance.

Approximately every month or so, a new publish comes out to enhance the game's overall experience. In the near future, the Jedi system is getting a complete overhaul in the manner of how the force sensitive slots are opened towards the path of the Jedi. It will no longer be a grinded profession series to master, but instead players will have to advance through a series of quests and such. Content is improving for the crafters side of the house, of recent note was the new improved droids, and the Image designer upgrades, both worthy and interesting to note.

Also of note, new quests are coming out for characters to be challenged on. Some can be solo'd others require a heavy amount of teamwork.

The price of the game is dropping to a more affordable level as well, so as to make it easier for players to enjoy. In the near future, an expansion will be coming out ( Ive heard fall of 04),
So players will be able to go into space with thier own starships.

Overall, this game is worth giving a spin or 2, I enjoy it immensely. Good luck and Good hunting to you all...

Immersive and addictive but ohh so great :)4
Those of you who play games to say you've finished it stay away from SWG. There is no end to this, and I love it. As a character you meet and become familiar with others. Going on hunts, gathering resources, and generally having fun. It's true that the grinding part of the game is arduous, but the rewards when you acheive master are great. It's a sad day whenever you have to drop skills you've worked on so you can learn another skill. Those who are most disappointed in the game are those who play merely to become jedi or those who wish to be Luke reincarnated.

Excellent experience from beginning to end5
I had to jump in and write a review of this product (my first ever on Amazon!) after reading some of the comments on the porduct page. Not sure what happened in the cases of Steve S. and D. Frank but personally I have nothing but good things to say both about the software and the customer service I received.

On the software side, I found that the robust "pro level" functionality not only gave me what I was looking for in terms of features and tools but was also surprisingly easy to use from an interface perspective (not always the case with these sort of feature-rich products). The multimedia tours were a hit with my kids (who have since learned to use the more advanced tools better that me!) and some of the viewing modules (e.g. the horizon panoramas) are so amazing that after using them I think I have finally rid myself of my guilt for not pursuing that astronomy PhD. I did think the joystick feature is still a bit klunky, but overall this is a really well designed and thoughtfully made piece of software.

In terms of customer service, since I have had minimal software issues it has not really come up. The one time I did send an inquiry it was answered promptly and effectively (turned out the minor problem I was experiencing was caused by an OS level setting that I had turned on for another piece of software -- a problem that I was impressed they were able to diagnose).

In summary - this is a great product and a great company. A truly perfect xmas gift for your seriosu astronomy buff pals.

Quality science + beautiful aesthetics - not your average astronomy software5
Fun, because you can view the galaxy & beyond from literally any position in space, and in any time (what did the sky look like when you were born? When Ptolemy was alive?), and educational, because these guys aren't dummies throwing together some flashy thing with no science behind it. The product feels like it was made by people who really care about what they're doing. Lots of depth in the information they provide, & connections to professional weather & astronomy sites (e.g. a weather map). I use this at home but I bet teachers would love this.

I'd definitely recommend the Pro product over the others because you can hook up your digital telescope -- a cool & incredibly helpful feature.

Did I mention thoughtful things like "night vision" viewing? And beautiful graphics!

    save your cash1
Please be aware that this program is not nearly as stable as version 4.5. Here are the issues I have with this new version, besides the crazy price:

1.) After repeated attempts to install the program from the provided CD, I had to copy the contents to the hard drive to get the installation to work.

2.) Registration is now FORCED. In the past Imaginova provided the registration number with the product, not anymore.

3.) I have the latest video card on the market, yet any attempt to view the Milky Way results in a program crash.

4.) The new interface takes up too much space...and what happened to the slider bar on the zoom!? Poor handling of how to adjust time and date.

Generally I suggest that this software is significantly overpriced. Add to that the take-it or leave-it attitude with the Imaginova staff, and your better off saving your cash. Get the cheaper version or just go to the now updated RedShift.

  • Destroyers are attack platforms that can engage enemy ships one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Cruisers are the backbone of the fleet's attack capability. They carry devastating firepower that can effectively engage any size target; even a military battle station.
  • Carriers are the cornerstone of the fleet. They deliver fighters and strike ships to the scene of action, and they coordinate the entire battle plan.

    Almost there5
This is a nice WW2 tank sim with a learning curve. Right now this is the only sim with a sense of authenticity and immersion. It has its problems like cumbersome controls and odd sound effects, but they are not game stoppers. There is an unofficial patch available. With a mod community growing, this sim may have a bright feature. Right now folks are working on African campaign. If you want to get a feeling how it was during those battles, this is a sim for you.

    Steel Tranquility1
Steel fury has a really bad interface. I bought Steel Fury because one can fight on the German side in a panzer IV. The panzer IV does not have a cross hair on the main gun! Switching positions in the tank takes about three seconds while your screen is black! There are no patches on the website. The vehicles do look good and you can run over trees, but this in no way makes up for the poor interface.

    Fun and challenging game.5
Overall this is a great game in a neglected genre.

    Pros:
Graphics are good, maybe not the best but it works well on my (older) machine.
Realism: accurate physics, driving is great, ballistics seem correct. Tank interiors look good.
Challenging: it is very hard to stay alive while not using the F9 external view.
Supported by "unofficial" patches by the developer after the publisher (Lighthouse) went under. Search for "Steel Fury Unofficial Patch" and you'll find it. This fixes the missing gunsight graphics on the PzIV among other fixes.
Active mod community mainly centered in Russia/Ukraine, but some of this content can be used in english language version also.
Ability to add missions and maps with sophisticated editor (caveat below).
Random triggers in missions add to replay value. Units can change type from PzIV to stuG, and attack from different places. Player start location changes, etc.
Detailed statistics post mission show exactly what shots hit you and the damages done. Fascinating!
Like the Il-2 Sturmovik series did, brings knowledge about a battle/theater little known in west. Has inspired me to read some more about Eastern front.

    Cons:
No longer has publisher in west.
Anti-aliasing doesn't work in game and if you enable it anyway it will slow things down with no visual enhancement (noted in readme file).
Awkward and/or too many keyboard controls, i/e things that could be a toggle are seperated into multiple keys.
Small community of users outside of Russia/Ukraine.
    No multiplayer.
AI can be dumb, nothing new there, hard to find a sim with truly good AI.
Mission and map editors very hard to use, instructions are there but unclear (included PDF). Tutorial videos available on developer website are only in Russian language.

I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of WWII tank sims. I do not have T-34 vs Tiger but if you are mostly interested in off-line play this would be the one to choose as far as content. To me the main question is "is it fun?" to me the answer is strongly "yes".

    From the manufacturer
SteelKeys 6G is a professional gaming keyboard, designed and created exclusively for hardcore gamers. SteelKeys 6G can't tell you what time it is, recharge your iPod, illuminate your room with softcore lighting or make coffee - but it's amazingly responsive, extremely durable and optimized for gaming.

It's incredibly responsive thanks to gold plated connectors (18K gold), it's strong and solid thanks to a hard thermoplastic casing and all keys are face plate mounted to a solid metal surface.

All keys on the SteelKeys 6G are designed to endure a life cycle of up to 60 million keystrokes and all connectors are gold plated with 18K gold to ensure extremely low latency. This allows for fast and reliable response times even when using the most detailed and advanced key combinations.

SteelKeys 6G uses a specially designed buffer system designed especially for PS/2 - up to 8 different keys can be used simultaneously. The use of PS/2 allows for easy plug-in to tournament computers at LAN-events and helps free up systems with limited USB-ports. Optional PS/2 to USB converter included.

An extra keyset for all standard-sized keys, created in a neutral grey color, is furthermore included in the package. Keys can easily be swapped which allows the user to achieve better visual navigation while playing.

SteelKeys 6G is furthermore designed to withstand the strains of transportation, making it an optimal keyboard for gamers who frequent LAN-events. The casing is made of very durable thermoplastic and all keys are face plate mounted to a solid metal surface.

amazing response and feedback from keys5
I like keys that click, most people don't yet they make almost none the only keyboard I ever had was the 2001 sum such form an old nineties computer, but this one has those keys again, but even more sturdy and robust. The response time(low latency) is just as advertised and you can use it for more than just games I am typing this with far less fluster than most of my "high-end" indi-glow blu "gaming keyboards" could dream of. no bulk no indi-glow blu lights, no frilly looks, just performance and a sturdy large set of keys and a deep stroke for gamers(who are rough on equipment anyway). play FPS and RTS in the same form as in EEZILY! the respones and feel of this device has to be experienced I can't explain further! the keys can be revoved for a different color as in distinguishing a critical key to a non crit also don't mistakingly put a num key pad "1" to the "1" that goes above WAPS or you'll be tugging to get it free(not that it seems to damage this arnold schwartzaneiger of a keyboard). pair it with creative's Fata1ity 2020(NOT 1010) and you'll have a complete input set for the gaming rig just remember, 2020 is a short squat little mouse and a Danny Divito(referenced somewhere) sized mouse and an Arnold Schwartzneiger Keyboard is an odd thing!
