The SteelSeries Ikari Laser Mouse is designed specifically for RTS and MMO gamers in mind. Tournament players can program the house mouse and the characteristics of the mouse driver can remember settings and macros - even without installing drivers. The level of play used in the SteelSeries Ikari Laser utilizes a new method for tracking analysis, reaching 40.000 SPS (or around five times the speed of conventional laser technology). In addition, the processor supports resolution settings with increments of only 1 CPI, which for the first time, offers users the possibility to adjust the mouse at exactly the profile of their personal responses.

Manufacturer Description
The SteelSeries Ikari mice are the result of 15 months extensive research of ergonomics, technology, shape, motion, hand grip and play styles by gamers. The shape, materials and specifications of the SteelSeries Ikari mice are based on input from professional players from Team 3D, compLexity, mousesports, SK Gaming, Team NoA and other world-class gaming organizations, who collectively represent the world's most accomplished gamers in Counter-Strike and other gaming disciplines.
The SteelSeries Ikari Laser mouse features programmable macros for RTS and MMO gamers and a high precision sensor suitable for FPS gamers. Furthermore the Ikari Laser is completely driverless which enables the mouse to remember settings and macros when plugged into tournament computers -- without installing any drivers or software.
The advanced SteelSeries XY2 laser engine supports resolution settings with increments of only one CPI, which for the first time ever gives the user the ability to fine tune the mouse exactly to his personal reaction pattern. Set your windows and in-game sensitivity to default and set the CPI on your hardware instead of forcing software calculations.
With the built in LED display in the bottom of the Ikari Laser you are able to adjust your CPI anytime, anywhere -- you are completely independent of software or drivers. The gaming grade engine used in the SteelSeries Ikari Laser utilizes a new way of analyzing tracking, reaching 40,000 SPS (or around five times the speed of conventional laser technology).
What makes the Ikari so special?
The Ikari Series has been developed in cooperation with professional gamers from all around the world. Teams like SK-Gaming, mousesports, Team3D, compLexity and others were involved in many of the stages of development of the Ikari. It took us a total of 15 months to gather and process the feedback we have received. The result was the Ikari series. We believe both of the Ikari mice are a perfect addition to your arsenal of professional gaming gear and will help you to improve your game.
What is the difference between Ikari Laser and Ikari Optical?
The SteelSeries Ikari Optical is a mouse that's perfectly suited for FPS players. The optical sensor is well proven and can track even when moving the mouse at an extremely high speed when playing on a very low sensitivity. It's a very simple mouse where the focus was clearly on performance in games like Counter-Strike. The Ikari Laser is made for all of the MMO/RTS players that need high precision at a rather high sensitivity. It's not made for extremely fast movements of the hand (and by that we really mean extremely fast). It offers an LCD, on-the-fly counts per inch (CPI) switching and macro functionalities which can be programmed with the software.
I'm considering buying an Ikari mouse, which mouse pad is recommended for it?
The Ikari Optical is perfectly compatible with all our mouse pads. The Ikari Laser is not compatible with glass mouse pads so you shouldn't use it with the SteelSeries Experience series. We recommend a mouse pad of the SteelSeries QcK series or the SteelSeries 5L for use with the SteelSeries Ikari Laser.
Customer Reviews
Great Design
Unlike other gaming mice i've owned, the Ikari seems to add all the best features and leaves-out all the annoying ones others like to bundle-in.
I finally have the right balance of physical and software controls I've been wanting. I'm not sure who develops their drivers and technologies, but I feel like I have more accuracy and the mouse aims exactly where I want it be, and not where the computer thinks I'm aiming at.
The grip is made of a great material, and ergonomic layout is perfect.
Seems like every LAN and event I go to, SteelSeries is there or donates prizes . . . that's how I found-out about them. Nice support of the gaming community! Seems like others never give back, then try to copy SteelSeries' innovations (but fail).
Great Ergonomic Mouse for general right hand use
As a professional ergonomist (but not a gamer), I judge the overall ergonomics benefits of this mouse far far outweigh the negative (especially for gaming) of it being somewhat difficult to lift up for repositioning. It has become my mouse of choice, and I have tried many many mice. The thumb support and 4th finger and pinky support along with it's general contours, sensitivity control and well positioned Back button, put this mouse ahead of all or almost all other mice on the market. I would strongly recommend this mouse to most right handed computer users. I suggest that the mouse be marketed to the broader market (not just gaming market) as an excellent "Ergonomic Mouse," which it is.
Bad product!
After going through two of these products, the first of which didn't move at all after 20 mins. of use, and the second which moved on its own, i'm at the conclusion this mouse sucks!, go back to the drawing board steelseries. I own everything else by this brand but screw the mouse go logitech hard to beat'em.
